U16 Boys - County League Final

Our U16 boys played Fr. Griffin / Eire Og  in the County League Final  in Pearse Stadium.   An exciting game to the end kept the  spectators kept on the edge of their seats as extra time was needed to decide the winner. Fr. Griffin / Eire Og led 1-9 to 1-4 at half time.  Liam Glynn was unable to play due to illness and we suffered a further blow when both Cormac Raftery and Cathal Hynes had to go off with injuries.  Our lads fought hard and thanks to two late goals from Colm Fallon the game ended  at normal time on a score of Glan 4-7 Fr. Griffin / Eire Og 1-16.

North Board Championship Semi-final - Leaving Certs!

Hard luck to Na Gleannta

Hard luck to Na Gleannta minor team who lost out to Caltra in the North Board Championship semi-final last week. This was a game that was hard fought with both sides struggling to pull away from the other with the result in doubt  right up to the final whistle.  Na Gleannta suffered a set back early in the 1st half when both Mickie Fox and Nigel Fahy, two key players, were forced to go off due to injury. At half time Caltra led 0-4 to 0-3 with the Na Gleannta scores coming from Keith Davis. Throughout the game many players featured for Na Gleannta but the "man of the match" performance was given by Peter Lohan for his skillful defensive play.   Superb free taking by Keith Davis from almost impossible angles could not go unnoticed but unfortunately Caltra were stronger and the game ended on a scoreline of Caltra 0-7 Na Gleannta 0-5.
Thanks to the panel of players who put in such a huge effort to reach this point in the competition and we are very proud of them all. Thanks also to the management team of Paddy Joyce, Cathal Dowd, David Burke and Michael Curtin  and to all who supported the team.

Team : Brendan Smith, Paddy Kelly, Peter Lohan, James Burke, Ross Connolly, Anthony Comer, Ben Conneally, Michael Fox, Fergal Dowd, Cormac Raftery, Keith Davis 0-5, Gerard Nolan, Stephen Fox, Nigel Fahy and Mark Conneally. Subs Used : Cathal Hynes, Peter T Keaveney, Jonathan Mannion and Eoin Keady.
Liam Glynn, Conor Ryan, Chris Collins, Liam Burke, Eugene Morgan.

Intermediates defeated!

Our Intermediate team lost to Oughterard in the league on Saturday last. The game finished Oughterard 1-11 Glenamaddy 1-6. Oughterard led 1-5 to 0-4 at half time with Glan playing against the wind. U14 Boys

Our U14 boys drew with Loughrea; the game ending with both teams on 1-9. We led 1-5 to 0-3 at half time, but failed to capitalise on this in the 2nd half, allowing Loughrea to take control of the game. A free from Michael Geary levelled the game.

Na Gleannta Minors

Na Gleannta minor team lost to Killererin on Wednesday evening last. This was a disappointing game where we failed to dominate at any stage!

w/e 15th May 2011

Glenamaddy Intermediates

Our Intermediate Team got off to a poor start in the 1st round of the championship when they were beaten 1-15 to 0-5 by a much fitter and stronger Menlough team. Menlough took control of the game from the start and Glan struggled to get the ball into the Menlough half of the pitch early on in the game. Menlough led 0-8 to 0-2 at half time having used the following breeze to their advantage. In the 2nd half Glan failed to make good use of the breeze and for quite a lot of the time were in disarray on the pitch and only managing to add 3 more points to the score board! Overall this was a very disappointing team performance.
Team: Dereck Miskell, Patrick Conneally, Aidan Geraghty, Antony Comer, Keith Cunniffe, Aaron Hynes, Damien Miskell, Shane Mannion, Fionan Keady, Luke Conneally, Barry Conneely 0-1, Sean Conneally 0-2, Barry Curtin, Martin Conneally 0-1, Keith Davis, Subs Used Michael Molloy 0-1, Aidan Hanley, Michael Gibbons.

U13 Boys

Congratulations to our U13 boys who had a 2-8 to 0-2 win in the U13 league against Team Stars.

U14 Boys

Hard luck to our U14 boys who lost 2-8 to 1-4 in the U14 league against Craughwell.

w/e 29th May 2011

Glenamaddy Intermediates

Our Intermediate footballers lost to Williamstown on Saturday 28th in the 2nd round of the championship having led 1-4 to 0-4 at half time with a breeze on our backs. During the 1st half we lost Michéal Molloy and Aaron Hynes to injury and this had a major impact on our overall performance in the 2nd half of the game. We failed to score in the 2nd half and the game ended with a scoreline of 0-9 to 1-4 in favour of Williamstown. We wish Michaél Molloy and Aaron Hynes a speedy recovery and congratulate Nigel Fahy on his debut game in Intermediate Championship football.
Team : Dereck Miskell, Keith Cunniffe, Aidan Hanley, Patrick Conneally 0-1, Aidan Geraghty, Barry Conneely 0-1, Sean Conneally, Martin Conneally, Nigel Fahy 0-1, Thomas Curtin 1-1, Shane Mannion, Michéal Molloy. April update

Apologies - no web access for a few weeks so hopefully this old information will still be of some interest

w/e 24th April 2011 ...

U14 Boys
Well done to our U14 boys who had a 0-12 to 2-5 victory over Mountbellew/Moylough in the 3rd round of the league. This was a great game of football with all panel members playing a vital role.
Team : Cormac Haslam, Zac Conneally, Mark Dolan, James Dillon, Jack Divilly, Sean Raftery, Aidan Keaveney 0-1, Michael Geary 0-8, Colm Fallon 0-1, Stephen Joyce, Eddie Walsh 0-2, Padraic Geraghty, Michael Heneghan, Ryan McHugh, Stephen Glynn, Subs Used Shay Connolly and Declan Smith.

U16 Boys
Congratulations to our U16 boys who had a good victory over St. Brendans, the match finishing Glenamaddy 5-10 to St. Brendans 2-6. St. Brendans dominated the first half leading 2-3 to 0-3 at half time but we responded with great scores coming from the boots of Michael Fox and Connor Ryan. Well done to all concerned.

w/e 1st May

Na Gleannta Minor Team

Congratulations to the Na Gleannta minor team who had a 3-14 to 2-11 victory over Headford last week. Headford led 2-6 to 1-5 at the break after having dominated the 1st half. In the 2nd half Na Gleannta took control and played with the belief that they were capable of winning this game; and two goal opportunities taken by Mark Conneally helped ensure victory for Na Gleannta. Some fine point scoring from Keith Davis and Michael Fox and great defensive play from Peter Lohan enabled Na Gleannta to eventually run out comfortable winners. Impressive play from the younger players like James Burke, Peter T Keaveney, Ben Conneally, Paddy Kelly and Nigel Fahy gave the supporters lots to cheer about. Thanks to Liam Glynn who took on the role of goal keeper at short notice. This was a great team performance and heartening for the future.
Team : Liam Glynn, Paddy Kelly, Peter Lohan, James Burke, Ross Connolly, Ben Conneally, Stephen Fox, Fergal Dowd 0-1, Nigel Fahy, Gerard Nolan, Keith Davis 0-9, Mark Conneally 2-1, Lewis Mulhearn, Michael Fox 1-2, Peter T Keaveney, Subs used Chris Collins 0-1, Liam Burke.

Glenamaddy Intermediates

The Intermediate Team played St. Brendans in the 3rd round of the league with both teams finishing on a score of 1-9 each. We led 0-4 to 0-3 at half time but from the start of the 2nd half neither team were really able to take control. This was a game that failed to produce any great football moves with both sides making mistakes. A draw probably the fairest result in the end!
Team: Dereck Miskell, Patrick Conneally, Aidan Geraghty, Anthony Comer, Keith Cunniffe 0-1, Aaron Hynes 0-2, Damien Miskell, Shane Mannion, Fionan Keady, Luke Giblin 0-1, Michael Geraghty, Sean Conneally, Barry Curtin 0-1, Thomas Curtin 1-4, Keith Davis. Subs Used : Martin Conneally, Luke Conneally, Barry Conneally and Michael Gibbons. Robert Molloy, Anthony Divilly, Walter Burke.

U14 Boys

Congratulations to our U14 boys who had a 5-3 to 4-5 victory over Oranmore in the League. Well done to all concerned.

2010 AGM

After being postponed from 18th December, due to bad weather, the 2010 AGM was held at the clubhouse on Saturday 8th January.

Michael Curtin opened the well attended meeting with a prayer for all deceased family, relatives and friends of members who had died during the past 12 months.

Secretary Mary Davis then gave an account of the club's activities throughout the year.  She thanked all under-age management teams and congratulated the U12 boys who won the North Championship, and the U13s who won the North League Final. She also congratulated the U14 team who reached the league and championship semi-finals; the U15s who reached the North Board League final, and the U16s who reached the Shield Final.
Mary went on to congratulate Cathal Hynes who won the Galway Feile Skills Competition and thanked James Burke, Cathal Hynes, Liam Glynn and Peter Thomas Keaveney who attended the U14 Development Squad, and Michael Fox and Cormac Raftery who attended the U16 Development Squad.
Mary included in her report the Minor and U21 panel amalgamation with Glinsk, under the name Na Gleannta, which proved to be a very successful union, enabling players from both clubs to get more match experience within their relevant age groupings.  She thanked Paul Devlin, Stephen Neary, Sean Dowd, Trevor Nolan and Aidan Geraghty for the work which they had put into this group of young players.

Mary's report further noted that the Junior team had to withdraw early from the competition due to being unable to field a team! Also that 2010 had been a difficult year for the Intermediates culminating in their relegation to Intermediate B.  Many would say that they had been unfortunate in losing 4 games by a single point, but throughout the season the panel had suffered from the loss of several players through injury.  Mary thanked the management team of Pat Connolly, Aidan Burke and Paul Devlin for their commitment to this team, and also the physios, Ruth Costello and Brid Connolly.
A special thanks was made to all players, supporters and managements teams for their level of discipline throughout the year.  Further thanks were made to the pitch committee for their continued good work on the pitch which helped to ensure that it was maintained to a high standard throughout the year, and also to Kenneth Davis and Declan McDermott for their work both on the pitch and the surrounding grounds.

Mary thanked Glenman Construction Corporation, the club's main sponsor, for their financial assistance and support over the last number of years, and wished Michael Conneally and family every success in 2011.

The secretary extended her gratitude to Fr. Mooney, Solas Magazine, and The Tuam Herald for kindly publishing club notes throughout the year.

Mary concluded her report by thanking all club members and officers that she had worked with, and also all who had helped her during the year, and wished all players, supporters, friends and associates a very successful 2011.

Kevin Duffy, Treasurer, then went on to present a detailed balance sheet and he spoke of the ongoing costs of running the club.  Kevin stressed that for 2011 it would be necessary to make attempts to reduce all spending within the club wherever possible.  The huge annual cost of electricity must be reduced and this will involve close monitoring of the usage of the floodlights at the pitch by all who avail of the facilities.
Kevin thanked all who rented hoarding on the pitch in 2010, and he also thanked those who support and promote the weekly Lotto, and asked for the continued support of all for this invaluable source of income in the future.

In his address, club Chairman Michael Curtin thanked all members and players for their commitment to the club.  He thanked Glenman Corporation for their sponsorship, and all who have sponsored various items throughout the year.  He also thanked the pitch committee for their continued work, and also the local schools, the Lotto supporters, and all who helped in various ways throughout the year.  Also his fellow officers for their support and commitment. Michael thanked all who helped in any way throughout the year, which included linesmen, umpires, coaches, managers, players, supporters, members and to all who helped make the fundraising "Night at the Dogs" such a success.  Michael felt that the club was indeed struggling for numbers in certain areas but that the number of young players at different age groups throughout the club was encouraging.  The issue of numbers and lack of same in certain areas was debated and it was agreed that much more discussion would need to take place in the coming year.

The election of officers then took place:-
