U21's in great victory!

Well done to our U21 footballers who had a hard-earned victory over St. Kerrills in the U21 championship with a score of 1-11 to 0-8.  They play Headford on Sunday at 2.30pm at the  Glenamaddy ground.

U13 Boys 

Our U13 boys play Mountbellew Moylough on Sunday 24th February at 11am again at the Glenamaddy ground.

A great weekend of football - get along if you can!

N.B. Minor training every Friday 6.30 at the club ground.

      There will be a GAA club meeting on Thurs Feb 28th 8.30pm in the meeting room at the clubhouse.

Recent news - Feb 2013

U13 Boys

Well  done to our U13 boys who had a comfortable victory over  St. Gabriels in the 1st rd of the league.   They play St. Brendans on Sunday Feb 17th @ 11am at  Glenamaddy GAA pitch. 

U21s

Hard luck to our U21 team who lost to Milltown in the 1st rd of the championship . They led throughout the game up to the 2nd minute of injury time when Milltown got a late goal and seized a 1 point victory. 
Next fixture:- v.  St. Gabriels on Saturday 16th February at Glenamaddy GAA ground at 2.30. 

AGM - report of meeting December 16th.

The Club held its  AGM on Dec 16th in the GAA meeting room. 

Chairman Michael Curtin in his opening address welcomed the sizeable attendance and said a prayer for present and former club members.  Michael thanked the various club officers, all those involved with teams and the players for their efforts in 2012. He expressed in his address how vast the role of the various club officers has become and that the amount of time required in these positions is increasing despite (or maybe because of!) the use of technology. 

Secretary Mary Davis gave a comprehensive report of activities both on and off the field noting in particular the success at under age. She thanked Glenman Corporation our main sponsor who continue to support the club in all areas but especially financially. Mary also thanked all other sponsors and all who support and promote our lotto. She also thanked all who published notes during the year for the club; Fr. Mooney, Tuam Herald, Midwest Radio and Galway Bay FM.

Treasurer Kevin Duffy presented a detailed balance sheet and informed all present of the increasing cost of running the club on an annual basis. He thanked all for their support and expressed the need for some fund raising tasks to be taken in 2013. It was agreed that the cost of club membership for 2013 would remain the same as for 2012.

The election of officers then took place. The only change of personnel for 2013 were in the roles  of child protection officer and substance abuse officer. Michael Curtin  thanked the outgoing personnel  and welcomed Pat Geraghty as child protection officer and Kenneth Comer as substance abuse officer.  

Michael Curtin chairman concluded the meeting by  wishing all members the best of health, and happiness in 2013 both on and off the field.

Notes - update for Dec 2012 - AGM this Sunday

We're back - sorry for the absence of posts over last 6 months - hopefully you'll be able to catch up with all things GAA back home again on a regular basis!

Under age presentation

On  Sunday evening medals were presented to our underage teams who have had a very successful 2012.

The presentation was made by our special guest, club legend, Shay Walsh who had huge success at club and county level in the past.  In his speech Shay  urged all players to keep playing for as long as possible and that they were of huge importance not only to their club but also that their club is a vital cog in their path to success in many walks of life. 

Thanks to all who turned up to support the players and afterwards everyone enjoyed the food and refreshments that were served. Thanks to Martina Heneghan  and to all who helped with the catering  and a special word of thanks to Mary and Paddy Pettite  and the staff in the Community Center for helping to prepare the hall and ensuring that everything ran smoothly.

Training weekend

A very successfull weekend of training was organised by Michael Molloy for the  players in the club and we thank Michael for his professionalism. Well done Michael.

AGM

Our A.G.M will be held on Sunday next Dec 16th @ 6pm in the club meeting room and we invite all players , members and supporters to attend this very important meeting.

Diary reminders

1. Glenamaddy/Glinsk Intermediate training continues every Tuesday and Friday evening @ 8 at Glenamaddy GAA pitch. 
2. Training for U14 players commences on Saturday morning @ 11. 
3. Club  meeting on Monday next March 5th @ 8 in the GAA meeting room.  All members please attend. 

AGM 2011

We  recently held our A.G.M. and  would like to thank all who attended on the night and all who sent apologies.

The secretary, Mary Davis, presented a detailed report.

• She complimented the underage players and  management teams on their success in 2011.
• She also informed the meeting of the successful discussions with Glinsk GAA, which have resulted in the formation of group teams for all underage and adult teams for 2012 using players from both clubs. The teams will play under the name Glenamaddy/Glinsk. Mary further informed all present, that there were still issues for discussion and that these would be addressed as quickly and efficiently as possible in the coming weeks. She also stressed that it was important that  lines of communication were kept open with all players and members and that the committee were willing to address any concerns that were raised. She wished both clubs every success on their new journey and looked forward to lots of football for all players in 2012.
• The meeting was also informed that to date the club web site and blog has had approximately 11,000 visitors from many parts of the world since its inception, and she complimented Rynn Kemp for his continous work maintaining this site. 
• Mary thanked her fellow officers for their help and support in 2011. 

Kevin Duffy  the treasurer then presented the accounts which showed a healthy balance sheet.

• Kevin expressed the clubs thanks to all who contributed to the club by sponsorship, buying lotto envelopes and annual lotto tickets. He asked that players  and all members promote the sale of the annual lotto tickets both locally and also to the many people from our club and locality who have emigrated. Seamus Walsh our president was commended for introducing the lotto to the club. The lotto will have been in existence  for 20 years in 2012. 
• Kevin concluded his report by thanking his fellow officers and all who had helped in 2011.  

In his address club chairman Michael Curtin said that 2011 had been a year of mixed fortune for the club.

• Great success at underage had been achieved, but poor performance at adult level.
• He said that the  group team formation would be a challenge for both clubs but one that he looked forward to. He felt that this would make more players available from both clubs and keep the GAA flag flying for both parishes. 
• Michael thanked all team managers, selectors, panel members and their families for their commitment in 2011 and also the 3 primary schools and the Community School for continuing to promote the game. Michael expressed the club's thanks to all who had contributed in so many. 
• He thanked all our sponsors especially Glenman Corporation, our main sponsor.
•  Michael thanked his fellow officers and offered a vote of sympathy to all who suffered a bereavement in 2011.

November News - Updates

W/E 6th November

Our U15 boys lost to Mountbellew / Moylough in the shield final  with the game ending on a score of Mountbellew / Moylough 1-10 Glenamaddy 0-5.  Mountbellew / Moylough led at half time 1-7 to 0-2 having played with the aid of a strong breeze. Glenamaddy failed to make any major impact on this lead in the second half and  Mountbellew / Moylough proved to be worthy winners. 

Our players should hold their heads high though, as it was great to get to the final.

Congratulations to our U13 boys who beat St. Brendans 4-7 to 3-0 in the semi final of the U13 league. St. Brendans led 2-0 to 0-1 at half time having played with the aid of a strong breeze but Glenamaddy ran out easy winners in the end. We play Kilkerrin/ Clonbern in the final, date and venue to be decided.

Congratulations to the Community School on its presentation of the musical “The Wizard of OZ”. Well done to all concerned.

Well done to Aidan Potter and the Williamstown Intermediate team on winning the County Intermediate League.

U15  Boys

Well done to our U15 boys who had a big victory over Monivea/Abbey in the U15 'A' league. Glan led 3-6 to 2-1 at half time and in the 2^nd half added a further 5 goals to their tally to run out easy winners.

U10 Boys - Cup Winners

Congratulations to our U10 boys who won the Waldron Cup on Saturday 8th October in a blitz that took place in Glinsk. They beat Mountbellew/Moylough in the 1^st round and went on to defeat Oran in the final.

W/E 15th October

Intermediate Team

Hard luck to our intermediate Footballers who lost to Athenry on Thursday 13th:  Athenry 0-6 Glenamaddy 0-5, in the last round of the Intermediate League. We led 0-4 to 0-3 at half time and hopes were high! In the 2^nd half although leading for most of the game  two late frees won the game for Athenry. 

Thanks to team manager Aidan Geraghty, and selectors Tommy Ward, Tomas Giblin and Cathal Ryan for their hard work and commitment throughout the year.

Our U15 lost to Tuam Stars on Thursday evening last by a margin of Tuam Stars 2-11 Glenamaddy 0-11 and to Mountbellew 5-4 to 3-5 Sunday in the U15 'A' league.

U13 Boys

Our U13’s lost out to a much stronger St. Gaberiels  in the U1 league semi final.

Training

Our U8’s, U10’s, and U12’s boys finished up training on Monday evening. Thanks to Pat Collins, Pat Geraghty, Alphy O’Brien, and Kevin Duffy for looking after these young players throughout the season. 

Kilconly gain Senior Status

Congratulations to Kilconly on winning the Intermediate Championship and gaining promotion to senior grade.

W/E 22nd October

Congratulations to our U10 boys and their management team who won the blitz hosted by Killererin last weekend. The excellent display of football and score-taking from this panel of young players is encouraging for the club. Well done to all concerned and thanks to Killererin for their hospitality.

News w/e 25th September

U16 Boys - County League Final

Our U16 boys played Fr. Griffin / Eire Og  in the County League Final  in Pearse Stadium.   An exciting game to the end kept the  spectators kept on the edge of their seats as extra time was needed to decide the winner. Fr. Griffin / Eire Og led 1-9 to 1-4 at half time.  Liam Glynn was unable to play due to illness and we suffered a further blow when both Cormac Raftery and Cathal Hynes had to go off with injuries.  Our lads fought hard and thanks to two late goals from Colm Fallon the game ended  at normal time on a score of Glan 4-7 Fr. Griffin / Eire Og 1-16. 

In extra time the opposition scored 1-5 and we scored 0-2 but our lads can hold their heads high with their overall team performance. Final score Fr. Griffin / Eire Og  2-21 to  Glenamaddy 4-9.

There were excellent individual performances from  Colm Fallon who scored 3 out of the 4 goals,  Michael Fox, Michael Geary , Cormac Haslam and James Burke. A special thanks to the management team of Padraic Glynn, Brendan Burke and Paddy Joyce and to the parents and families of the panel for their support throughout the season.

Congratulations to our U13 boys who had victories over Kilkerrin/Clonbern and Milltown in the league and also to our U15 boys who beat Headford in the league on Friday night 16th September. Well done to all concerned.

Scrap Metal collection

We are continuing to collect scrap metal as a means of fundraising for the club, we would be very grateful if all our parishioners could have a look around their yards/sheds and any scrap metal e.g cars, machinery, metal, etc. Collection can be arranged  by contacting Mary Davis 087 9767838 or Kevin Duffy 087 2422091. U12 Football Blitz.

Thanks to our local credit union for sponsoring the U12 football blitz on Saturday 10th September. The teams who took part were Williamstown, Glenamaddy and Kilkerrin/ Clonbern who were the overall winners. Thanks to all the parents who helped out on the day and to the ladies who did the catering.

Intermediate result

Our Intermediate Team lost to Menlough in the league on Saturday evening last. Menlough led 1-7 to 0-5 at half time  and the game finished on a final score of Menlough 2-10  to Glenamaddy 0-7.

U16 Boys 'A' Championship

Hard luck to our U16 boys who lost to Oughterard in the 2^nd round of the U16 'A' championship. This was a hard fought contest with both teams ending on level scores at full time.  Glenamaddy 1-10 to Oughterard 0-13. The game then went to extra time with Glenamaddy leading 2-11 to 0-13 at the end of the first period. In the 2^nd half Oughterard outscored Glenamaddy with the game fianlly ending Oughterard 1-16 to Glenamaddy 2-12.

The U15 winter league starts on Sunday Sept 18^th. The teams in our group are Headford, Annaghdown, Williamstown and Ballinasloe.

North Board Championship Semi-final - Leaving Certs!

Hard luck to Na Gleannta

Hard luck to Na Gleannta minor team who lost out to Caltra in the North Board Championship semi-final last week. This was a game that was hard fought with both sides struggling to pull away from the other with the result in doubt  right up to the final whistle.  Na Gleannta suffered a set back early in the 1^st half when both Mickie Fox and Nigel Fahy, two key players, were forced to go off due to injury. At half time Caltra led 0-4 to 0-3 with the Na Gleannta scores coming from Keith Davis. Throughout the game many players featured for Na Gleannta but the "man of the match" performance was given by Peter Lohan for his skillful defensive play.   Superb free taking by Keith Davis from almost impossible angles could not go unnoticed but unfortunately Caltra were stronger and the game ended on a scoreline of Caltra 0-7 Na Gleannta 0-5.

Thanks to the panel of players who put in such a huge effort to reach this point in the competition and we are very proud of them all. Thanks also to the management team of Paddy Joyce, Cathal Dowd, David Burke and Michael Curtin  and to all who supported the team.

News week-ending 14th August 2011

Intermediates defeated!

Our Intermediate team lost to Oughterard in the league on Saturday last. The game finished Oughterard 1-11 Glenamaddy 1-6. Oughterard led 1-5 to 0-4 at half time with Glan playing against the wind. Glan opened the 2nd half by scoring two points leaving just a 2 point margin, but Oughterard responded with 3 points in a row. Giving Glan great hope with a well engineered goal Patrick Conneally reduced the deficit to 2 points again, but Glan were unable produce enough scores to win the game. This was a good team performance. We wish John Keaveney a speedy recovery to an ankle injury which he picked up during the game

The next game is against Menlough on Sept 3rd .

Na Gleannta


Na Gleannta minor team play Caltra in the semi-final of the North Board Championship on Wednesday evening @ 7.15 in Tuam Stadium. Support appreciated.

Connacht Medal!

Congratulations to Cormac Raftery who won a Connacht medal with the County U16 football team when they beat Mayo North East on Monday last in the Ted Webb competition. The final score was Galway 1-10 Mayo 0 - 5. Well done Cormac!

Na Gleannta Minors v Caherlistrane

Na Gleannta minor team had a successful start in the 1^st round of the championship when they beat Caherlistrane 0 -13 to 0 -7. This was a tough game from the start with both teams  striving for success. Na Gleannta had a well deserved lead at half time having played  the better football scoring 0-9 to 0-3 having been in command in all areas of the pitch. 

In the 2^nd half they lost Nigel Fahy to injury but thanks to the hard work of the remainder of the panel the game finished with Na Gleannta on top. This was a very good team performance and they now play Williamstown in Clonbern on August 10^th.

Thanks to Williamstown GAA Club who  invited us to the U16 blitz that they hosted as part of their festival. We beat Kilkerrin/Clonbern and Williamstown but lost to Castlerea in the final 0 - 3 to 2 - 1.
