Na Gleannta U21 results.

Na Gleannta 1 - 8     Caltra 2 - 6

Friday evening (Jan 29th) saw Na Gleannta's first game, against Caltra under lights at Glenamaddy's ground.

A close fought game lost only when Na Gleannta seemed to lose concentration in the middle third of the game.   Changing round at 5 points down Caltra soon extended their lead in the opening minutes of the second half. This led to a spirited fight back which saw Na Gleannta come so close to winning their first game.  A very encouraging beginning for Na Gleannta saw them lose, by a single point, a game they could so easily have won.

Na Gleannta happy to see the Caltra goalkeeper beaten and the ball hit the back of the net at last.

Caltra under pressure again during the second half.

Na Gleannta 0 - 8   Cortoon Shamrocks 1 - 8

Sunday (Jan 31st)  saw Na Gleannta's second game in the space of less than 48 hours as they took on Cortoon Shamrocks, this time at Glinsk's ground.
A good, tough game ensued with a tiring Na Gleannta side missing out by just 3 points.
A busy weekend then for the Na Gleannta boys, but they can go about their business tomorrow with pride having seen a successful start underway to the Na Gleannta trial.

The next game should be on Friday evening - opposition/ venue to be announced.

History in the making!!

Against a background of concern over lack of opportunities for under-age players it was agreed that an approach be made to a neighbouring club with a view to combining under age groups i.e. minor and U-21s.  As a result of these discussions Glinsk was approached and after several meetings involving committees of both Glenamaddy and Glinsk clubs it was resolved that Galway County Board would be consulted. Approval was given for a trial merger of the two clubs at U-21 and Minors only.  Further meetings between the two clubs led to an agreement that these teams would compete under the name of Na Gleannta and would wear the colours of orange and white.

Acting Chairperson for Na Gleannta is Martin Hurley and Secretary Mary Davis. Paul Devlin,Trevor Dolan, Stephen Neary and Sean Dowd are the management team for both age group teams.

The pictures show Na Gleannta at one of their very first training sessions this morning in Glinsk.  It was very encouraging to see over 20 lads turn up on a cold (-1.5c) foggy morning and show such enthusiasm.  Well done to everybody for getting this historic merger to the point of fruition.

The next training session takes place on Tuesday evening at Glenamaddy at 8 p.m.

Two games have been arranged :-

  • Friday evening January 29th at 8 pm v. Caltra
  • Sunday morning January 31st. v. Kilkerrin/Clonberne

Get along if you can to support the lads and witness this exciting development in the club's history.

Last night's draw, for €5000, was not won - numbers drawn were :- 1, 7, 25, and 28.  Quite a few matched 3 numbers so the jackpot carries over to next week when it will be €5200.  That's nearly enough for a new car with the scrappage scheme!!

Glenamaddy GAA in the sun

I've just spent an enjoyable couple of hours up at the GAA ground this morning - and what a beautiful morning it is.  Bright and warm - the grounds look great - everything neat and tidy and a credit to Glenamaddy.

What a contrast to the snow and cold of only 10 days ago - perhaps it signals an optimistic future for our teams this season!!

WEEKLY LOTTERY DRAW WINNER

Last week (Wednesday 13th January) finally saw the lottery jackpot won.  Congratulations to Coman Keaveny who scooped €16600 - what a great way to start 2010!!

The new jackpot kicks off with €5000 up for grabs tonight, so support your community clubs "Be in it to win it!!"

Support Your GAA Club - by simply topping up your phone

To all our readers,

We wanted you to know about a fantastic way  to help raise money for Glenamaddy GAA without it costing you anything!!  Vodafone are operating a Support Your GAA Club Programme which if you join will pay 5% of your pay monthly bill (or any top up) and donate it directly to us.

If you are already a Vodafone Ireland customer you can sign up by following the link at the foot of this information.  It's quick, hassle-free and you'll be helping Glenamaddy GAA everytime you you talk or text.

Remember the more people who join this programme the more Vodafone will donate to Glenamaddy GAA.  (If 100 people joined and each had an annual bill of €100 that would result in donations totalling €500 at no cost - and how many of us wish our annual mobile phone bill was only €100!!)  If you are not a Vodafone customer you can still help by considering switching then simply freetext GAA to 50308 to get details.

Please consider doing this - it literally takes only about 30 seconds to register online at www.supportyourgaaclub.ie  What an easy way to support your club financially!!

Thanks for your support - let's see if we can get well in excess of that hypothetical €500 mentioned above.
