1. Thanks to Cortoon and Kilconly GAA clubs for taking part in the U8/U10 blitz that was held in our club last Saturday and a special word of thanks to the parents who did the catering on the day.

Glenamaddy 1 - 11   Killererin 0 - 14

Glenamaddy emerged from this close fought encounter with a creditable draw after never really looking to be in contention.  Killererin started brightly, but were thwarted by the Glan goalkeeper in the first minute when a goal seemed certain.  They also missed a further two easy points and should have been 5 points up with only minutes gone. The luck was with Glenamaddy though, as although Killererin soon found themselves 3 points clear they were never really able to dominate the scoring, although they always looked the most dangerous side.

By half time the score stood at Glenamaddy 0 - 4  Killererin 0 - 5 so all to play for.

As the second half wore on it looked increasingly likely that Killererin were going to steal the honours as they gradually racked up a 5 point lead as Glenamaddy looked increasingly uncompetitive!

Again though Glenamaddy dug deep and found strength and inspiration from somewhere as they gradually clawed their way back into the game to close out a nervous draw almost on the final whistle.

Go Games at Milltown.

Thanks to Milltown for their hospitality when they held the Go Games for our U8 and U10 boys last Sunday afternoon. Well done to all our players who acquitted themselves well. Thanks to all parents who supported and encouraged these young players and to their management team.

U14s qualify for semis.

Our U14 boys qualified for the league semi final  when they had a good victory over Killererin  with the game ending Glenamaddy 3-10 to Killererin 2-10.

An under strength Glenamaddy side lost to Kilconly in the 3rd round of the league last Friday evening. This was not a game for the faint hearted and our lads worked hard throughout the game but thanks to a disallowed goal Kilconly were victorious with the final score Kilconly 0-11 Glenamaddy 0-10.

St Joseph's NS news

Congratulations to the boys of St. Josephs National School, Glenamaddy, on winning the Cumhainn na mbhun Scoil 9-a-side competition on Wednesday last when they beat Kilconly 5-10 to 4-10 in the final. Well done to all concerned. 

VHI Cul Camp

Victory over Williamstown

Glenamaddy 0 - 14  Williamstown 0 - 7


Congratulations to our Intermediate footballers who had a 0-14 to 0-7 victory over near neighbours Williamstown in the 2nd round of the championship. We led 0-6 to 0-4 at half time and took control of the game thereafter, using the wind to the advantage that Williamstown were unable during the first half.  For long periods of the 2nd half Glenamaddy dominated,  and finished the game as worthy winners. 


This was a great team performance with all players showing great skill and commitment. Congratulations to Stephen Joyce who was chosen as the Galway Bay Man of the Match. Well done to the management Team of Pat Connolly and selectors Aidan Burke and Paul Devlin.

Intermediate Championship 1st Round - Glenamaddy 0 - 8 Monivea/Abbey - 0 - 15

Thomas Curtin scores another point for Glenamaddy.

Playing under bright sunshine at Tuam Stadium Glenamaddy failed to match the fabulous weather as they gave a lacklustre display to their travelling fans.  The lads themselves will, of course, be disappointed as Monivea/Abbey were there for the taking, yet somehow Glenamaddy seemed to run out of ideas and ultimately ran out of steam as Monivea/Abbey over-ran them towards the end of the game.

Quickly falling behind by a point Glenamaddy fought spiritedly and soon found themselves in a 0 - 4 to 0 - 1 lead. A succession of frees then saw Glenamaddy go into a 5 point lead as accurate kicking from Thomas Curtin put them into a dominant position.

Monivea/Abbey were not to be underestimated though as they fought doggedly back and put the Glenamaddy defence under a huge amount of pressure. For long spells at the end of the first half Glenamaddy were unable to break out of their own half and at half time the score stood at Glenamaddy 0 - 7 Monivea/Abbey 0 - 5.  All to play for in the second half!

The second half though begun as the first had finished, with Glenamaddy soaking up the pressure - Monivea/Abbey were unable though to assert themselves fully and the best Glenamaddy attack for a good while saw skillful play from Tomas Giblin lead Glenamaddy into a more positive and purposeful period of play.

That though was pretty much it for Glenamaddy's aspirations as try as they might they could not withstand the final onslaught from Monivea/Abbey.  Adding only one more point during the whole of the second half to Monivea/Abbey's ten, they saw their first half two point lead totally annihilated.

Glenamaddy ultimately paid the price for being unable to score from open play, and more costly still not making sufficient accurate passes. Time and again possession was lost cheaply to poor passing in their own half, and this led to Monivea/Abbey being able to make good use of the territorial advantage this afforded them.

U14s fixture v. St Kerrills

Against what appeared to be a bigger stronger outfit the Glenamaddy U14 boys proved that size doesn't matter!

In a skillful and fast moving display the Glenamaddy lads showed that enthusiasm, teamwork and skill will always win the day as they rattled the score along.  Early pressure was soon rewarded as they marched into a 1 - 2 lead before St Kerrills began to show some attacking flair.  However they were kept out by Glenamaddy who soon broke out to push the score along again.

Indeed so dominant were Glenamaddy by now, that it was fully twenty minutes before the St Kerrills lads managed a score. St Kerrills then scored two goals in very quick succession to trim their arrears to 3 - 5 to 2 - 0.  This, pretty much, was the end of the St K's resistance and at half time the score stood at Glenamaddy 3 - 7, St Kerrills 2 - 0.

The second half saw the longest barren period of the game as it took Glenamaddy 6 minutes to convert pressure into points.  They had peppered the St K's goal but a flurry of wides was their only reward. Eventually, though, their persistance and dominance paid off as they finally finished the game out of sight of the St K's lads with the score ending at Glenamaddy 6 - 12 to St Kerrills 2 -2.

If this is a glimpse of the future of Glenamaddy football then there  are some exciting times ahead.

Na Gleannta v. Kilkerrin/Clonberne 12th May

So near, yet so far!!


In a thrilling encounter last night Na Gleannta just failed to overcome Kilkerrin/Clonberne by a scoreline of 0 -10 to 1 - 9.  That scoreline however does not reflect the drama of the second half as Na Gleannta clawed their way back from a 7 point deficit at one stage to within a point of levelling the game.

Na Gleannta had the better of the opening minutes of the game, but were unable to convert this into points before Kilkerrin/Clonberne took the initiative and Na Gleannta were ultimately fortunate still to be in contention at half time with the score standing at 0 - 3 to 0 - 6.

The second half began with Kilkerrin/Clonberne again piling on the pressure with a further point and a goal to hold what they must have thought was by now an unassailable 7 point lead. Through determination, tenacity, concentration and great skill the Na Gleannta lads set out to prove otherwise and through a succession of points from Keith Davis, Michael Gibbons and Cillian Raftery were within a single point of levelling the game with just a minute to play.

In a rare chance within the last twenty minutes of the game Kilkerrin/Clonberne managed to grab possession and finally kill off the Na Gleannta charge with a final point right on the whistle to secure a two point win.

A great evenings entertainment. Na Gleannta's customary gutsy fight in the second half just failing to take the spoils - stick with the attributes shown in the photos though and a more focussed first half will see Na Gleannta as a mighty force to be reckoned with!!

Challenge match Glenamaddy v Williamstown

A close fought game between old rivals Glenamaddy and Williamstown finished in a single point victory for the men of Glenamaddy at the Williamstown ground on Saturday evening, May 1st.

Determination etched on the players faces.

A closely fought game was enjoyed by the spectators as both teams kept the score line ticking over as the players showed great determination and tenacity encouraged by their coaches.

Fair odds?

Speaking to a Williamstown supporter at the end of the game to ascertain the score was illuminating.  Having missed the opening of the game the scoring was so free flowing and the play so competitive and the teams well matched that it was difficult to work out just who was in the lead. The Williamstown supporters comment was "I should say the score was close, but it was only a challenge game!"   ONLY a challenge game!  Both teams showed there is no such thing; every ball was fiercely competed over, encouragement from the Glenamaddy coaches was vociferous and the result was important.

Still though I couldn't find out the final score for which I apologise - suffice to say though Glenamaddy won with a fine spirited performance by the single point.  Well done lads!

Overdue update - 2 - information for week ending 18th April

1. Our U14 boys, took part in the Feile competition, on Saturday last which was hosted by Williamstown. We won 2 games but lost to St.Gabriels in the final game, 2-8 to 1-5. A special thanks to all parents who supported the panel and to Williamstown for their hospitality.
2. Congratulations to Cathal Hynes who won the  Galway Feile skills competition in Tuam on Sunday. Well done Cathal.
3. Our Junior team played what could certainly be described as a game of two halves on Friday evening last against Tuam Stars in the 3rd round of the junior B league. Tuam led 0-9 to 0-3 at half time with Glenamaddy struggling in many areas of the field. However our team produced a brilliant 2nd half to be worthy winners at the end with the final score 1-13 to 0-13.                  Team : Martin Donnegan, Patrick Conneally, Aidan Potter, Luke Conneally, Anthony Comer, Sean Conneally 0-2, Noel Fahy, Michael Geraghty 1-1, Stephen Joyce 0-1, Eamonn Gannon, Keith Davis 0-5, Robert Molloy, Cillian Raftery, Martin Conneally 0-3, Damien Potter 0-1.     Subs used:  Fionan Keady, Niall Miskell and Michael Gibbons. 4. Our Intermediate team had a hard earned victory when they beat Menlough on Sunday afternoon with the game finishing on a final score of 0-11 to 0-9. This was a tough game with all players giving of their all and their mentors can feel proud of the team spirit that was shown throughout the 70 minutes. The supporters  were kept on a knife edge and could not relax till the sound of the final whistle.
